What's the deal with women and M/M Erotica?

What's the deal with women and M/M Erotica?
I've asked myself this question many times over the last few months.
As a straight (well as straight as anyone can be), forty-something year old widow with four kids to brag about, I'm probably not the first person you'd think of when it comes to authors of Gay Erotica.
Yeah, well imagine MY surprise!!
I recall the first time I read a M/M novel. The author, Blak Rayne, had just released her first story with a mutual publisher and I just had to check it out... let's say that curiosity had me by the tail.
I credit her with popping my M/M cherry and she was more than happy to have done it.
After reading it though, I found myself asking more questions than I thought possible about the genre

Okay, so naturally some were dumb, but as she explained, there's no such thing as a dumb question when you're sincerely trying to educate yourself on something you know nothing about.
Let's face my knowledge, I've never had sex with a gay man... kinda defeats the label in the first place doesn't it? Not that a gay man would never sleep with a woman... I suppose some might, should the situation arise, but that's neither here nor there. We'll tackle that topic another day!!

Anyway, in her stories the relationship lines were profoundly drawn and it was clear one hero totally dominated the other in the bedroom, though he may not have in the public eye. It was a futuristic military story, and the way the characters were depicted, their roles were often times reversed.
It reminded me of a time when I asked lesbian friends, "Okay, so who's the dude in the relationship?"
I decided the best answer should be, "Whoever has the bigger toy."
**shaking my head, still trying to get that yummy image out of my twisted mind.

I also decided the allure for me to M/M erotica as a reader is that vulnerable side that one must reach to open their hearts and minds to something that is still, unfortunately, so taboo throughout modern society. Things are changing, but not nearly fast enough.
As a writer, my reasons are close to the same thing.

I have a need to create believable characters, flawed and struggling. Somehow the angst and emotions run so much higher, not to mention hotter, when dealing with two men.
The power struggle is addictive. Getting two "alpha" males to come face to face with a natural attraction, toss them together in a situation which ultimately leads to love, and then sitting back and waiting to see who grows the most, who gives, who takes, who goes above and beyond the call to be true to themselves, has to be the most challenging task I've encountered as a writer. Not to mention the satisfaction and utter delight I feel when the ending is a happy one. Strangely enough, after a while, the stories stop being about two men and become stories about two people. Isn't that how it should be anyway?

People don't seem to bat an eye when guys fall all over themselves because two women kiss, only to have a conniption fit when women react the same over two men going at it, all hot and heavy.
Personally, I find both to be hot, simply because I appreciate passion as much as the next person

Admittedly, I do have a type and if the pics I've shared throughout my website and this post aren't revealing, then perhaps you need to have your eyes examined.
I like 'em athletic, hot and not too hairy. **please excuse me for a second while I reflect on these sensual images...
In the end, I can't speak for everyone as to why women love gay erotica, specifically M/M stories. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes and it's not for me to judge.
What I do know is this... women aren't writing the genre because men aren't capable. (Heheh, I mean who would know about love and sex with a man better than a man.)
So it's not about stepping on toes, or taking a jab at our testosterone infused counterparts at all.

The best explanation I have is that a good chunk of readers are women and women do tend to get all mushy over the romance stuff. *please don't write to me about stereotyping people with that remark....
Instead, ask around. How may of your male friends read romance? Now how many of your female friends do? There isn't really a need for a head count...the ladies will win hands down.
Now how many romance authors out there are female? Male?
I think you get my point. It was only matter of time before some of us crossed the bridge and left our mark on the other side. And if the end results means more choices out there for everyone, including more stories tailor-made for the gay community, then how can this be a bad thing?

I hope my first M/M erotica continues to touch lives in the same way it has so far.
We play around a lot here, discussing sex and drooling over hot guys, but a lot of these stories have messages that go far past gratuitous sex. My stories do and a lot of the stories of my fellow authors do as well.
Sensitive topics are addressed and real human issues are dealt with. Wrapping those touchy subjects up into a good story with a lot of emotion and adding in the necessary amounts of sensuality, just makes it come through on a deeper, more personal level. After all, it's all still romance.

K. William's Debut M/M Novel: HERO

Welcome back everyone.
It’s been a while since we’ve had company here on the ol' blog, but today we have a special new author and she’s brought along a super sexy cover as well an awesome sneak peek.
Please help me welcome another lover of men in uniforms and fellow Texan, K. Williams, as she introduces her debut M/M novel, Hero.
Let’s get to know her a little better, shall we?
K. Williams is a college student living in Texas. She is married to Iraq veteran Specialist J. Williams of the United States Army. The two are the proud parents of one hyper furbaby, a black and white Chihuahua named Ringo. As the name indicates, both she and her husband are huge fans of The Beatles.
When she is not writing, K. Williams is organizing a local LGBT friendly group and studying for her degree in social work. She has a passion for helping people as well as writing.

Now for the yummy stuff…
Aaron is a soldier preparing to deploy for the first time. During the process, he meets Oliver. There is an instant connection. The entire time that Aaron is overseas, the two continue to think of each other and wonder what could have been. Upon Aaron’s return, fate brings the two together again. Lust ignites a beautiful love.  However, in the Army change is bound to happen and relationships are put to the test. Hero follows the story of a brave couple facing the challenges of a military relationship.

“Do I get a chance for a second date?” Aaron asked.
Oliver gripped the handle of the driver’s side door of his silver Prius. “Yeah, I’d like that.”
Oliver became suddenly aware of how close Aaron was to him. The tall soldier put his hand on Oliver’s hip. “I’m glad,” he said. His voice, eyes, his whole demeanor was seductive.
Oliver didn’t feel like he could breathe. He could feel the heat coming from the man. He wanted Aaron to kiss him. “You…you could kiss me,” he whispered, surprising himself.
Aaron smiled and gently caressed Oliver’s cheek. Oliver felt himself getting lightheaded as those full lips approached his. When they kissed, Oliver’s knees went weak. His lips parted and Aaron’s tongue gently probed into his mouth. Being in Aaron’s arms was everything Oliver had imagined it would be. He was sure that if Aaron asked, he would do anything the soldier wanted right there in the parking lot.
Aaron pulled away from the kiss and Oliver followed, stumbling forward into Aaron’s arms. Oliver could feel himself blushing. He finally regained the ability to stand on his own and stumbled back against his car door.
“You’re damn cute,” Aaron said. He kissed Oliver’s forehead. “Can I get your number?”
Oliver rattled off the digits, still feeling a bit lightheaded
Aaron smiled. “You have a good night, sweetheart.”
Aaron kept the mental image of Oliver after their first kiss in his mind as he settled down to sleep. For the first time since returning home, he slept with no nightmares.
He felt invigorated the next morning and got in an excellent work out. He was feeling so good that he called his mother. He knew she’d been worrying about him after the week he’d spent visiting on leave. He hoped that she felt better after their conversation. Aaron didn’t want his mother to worry. He didn’t mention Oliver to her yet, feeling it was too soon for that. When he hung up the phone, he was confident that his mom would be reassured.
Aaron took advantage of his good mood and started to run errands. He got his hair cut and went grocery shopping for the first time since getting back. He watched the clock. He didn’t want to call Oliver while the young man was at work and he also didn’t want to appear desperate. He decided that sometime in the evening would be best. It was hard not to stare at his watch as the minutes ticked by. Aaron was anxious to set up another date. His mind was glued on the little moments from the night before, like how his skin tingled when their fingers brushed over the chips and salsa and how Oliver had blushed at that every time, even when it became clear Aaron was doing it on purpose. There was something in Oliver’s eyes and the way he smiled that made Aaron feel like a human being again, instead of just some pawn in a war that was bigger than him.
Oliver spent the entire day wondering if Aaron would actually call. After getting off work, he turned the ringer on his cell phone all the way up, just so he wouldn’t miss the call. Around six, he got a little nervous. He felt a bit foolish, waiting for the call like he was. Aaron hadn’t specified that he would be calling today. Oliver knew he shouldn’t get all worked up.
He couldn’t figure out what it was Aaron saw in him. The man was undeniably gorgeous and yet had ignored the advances of the man at the next table to the point that Oliver wondered if Aaron had noticed it at all. Aaron had a way of making Oliver feel comfortable, which was no easy task. Then, there was that wonderful kiss that had absolutely swept Oliver away. He had to admit, he’d had his head in the clouds ever since, but it was time to come down. Oliver didn’t think the call would be coming.
Just when he was about to give up, his phone rang.

Beyond Honor ~ Latest news and yummy excerpt!!

my debut M/M novel
An email has been sent and I hope you enjoy my book!!!

Beyond Honor has taken the world by storm and within the first 24 hours made the Bestseller list as All Romance Books / ARe Cafe!!
You know what that says to me?? That there are a whole lotta people out there who LOVE MEN WHO LOVE MEN, just like ME!!
I hope you'll stick around and follow my blog, because the requests for more stories have been pouring in and let's just say Tyler Robbins is going to be one busy lady for quite a while!!!
Thank you all so much for the support!! As a token of my appreciation, I thought I would share another excerpt with you... not too much of a tease... just enough to whet your appetite for more!!

ADULT Excerpt:

“Okay, well you two get settled, and then we’ll start this party.” Jared grabbed his duffel bag and returned to his parents’ bedroom.
As he entered, he noticed the bathroom door ajar and saw Michael standing on the other side, pulling his shirt up over his head. White tape wrapped around his upper torso on one side, and Michael winced as he unfastened his jeans.
His ribs were definitely bruised.
Jared swallowed hard, standing there, watching, unable to look away. No matter how badly he wanted to leave, his feet wouldn’t budge.
Michael lowered his jeans and then his boxers, causing Jared’s cock to throb. Michael was gorgeous, with tanned skin, a tapered waist and an ass that curved perfectly, firm and supple.
Jared couldn’t help it. He rubbed his dick through his tightening jeans. He’d never seen anything so appealing.
When Michael turned around, his rather large cock dangled between his legs, and Jared instantly wondered what it would feel like hard and in his hand. His pubic area was well groomed and trimmed very neatly, and his thighs were muscular and strong.
Michael looked up, and the two men made eye contact.
Jared squirmed and quickly removed his hand from his crotch. His face burned as hot as a bonfire. Shit! He turned to go, but as he made it to the door, Michael rushed from the bathroom then reached out and grabbed his arm.
“You don’t have to go.”
Jared jerked back and licked his lips. He struggled not to look down. If he did, he wasn’t sure what would happen, but he was sure it wouldn’t be good. “Mike, I-I should leave.”
The desperation in Michael’s tone tugged at his heart.
Jared backed against the door and stared into Michael’s eyes. “Please don’t.”
“Don’t what?” Michael pressed his lips together and inched closer. “Don’t make you admit that you’re attracted to me?”
Jared shook his head as Michael leaned into him.
“Don’t tell you that you’re all I think about?”
Hot breath spilled over Jared’s neck as Michael quickly invaded his personal space.  A warm hand gently took his, and in seconds, Jared held Michael’s cock in his hand.
Michael caressed the back of Jared’s fingers, prompting him to stroke his shaft. “See, it’s only flesh and blood, just like yours.”
Jared held his breath and squeezed his eyes shut as the softness of Michael’s dick began to take on a different shape by hardening in his hand. He felt powerful. Strong. To know the effect his touch had on Michael excited him in a way he’d never been thrilled before.
All on his own, Jared continued to stroke it.
Michael leaned in and began to kiss Jared’s neck. Soft moans vibrated against the tender skin on his throat, encouraging Jared to stroke faster.
Clicking sounds echoed throughout the room as his hand became slippery by the juices spilling from Michael’s cock. Jared didn’t have to look down to know instinctively what was occurring. He’d jacked off thousands of times. He’d know that sound anywhere.
Michael flattened his hand on the door beside Jared’s head, keeping his body far enough away so as not to interrupt the event. He ran his tongue up Jared’s jaw-line and toward his lips, then plunged it deep inside Jared’s mouth.
His taste was as sweet as it had been that morning, maybe even more so. “Fuck.”
Michael kissed him again and then pulled back, panting hard in Jared’s ear. “I’m gonna come.”
Jared’s heart pounded. He’d never pleasured a man to the point of explosion, and the feeling of complete and utter supremacy flooded over his whole body. He opened his eyes and looked down as Michael’s swollen cock pulsed in his hand. The tip dripped with satiny, clear pre-cum. Excited, Jared’s fist slid up and down even faster.
Michael sucked air through his teeth. “Fuck yes.”
Jared licked his lips, savoring the way Michael reacted to his touch.
Michael moaned, and then all of a sudden, he came.
One sweet burst after another of hot milky fluid spurted onto Jared’s fingers. In that instant, Jared felt like a god.
Michael kissed him again, and for the first time ever, Jared held him in his arms and returned the kiss fervently....
