Welcome to the 2015 Hop Against Homophobia, Bi- and Transphobia!!
It’s always a pleasure to participate in this Hop each year for more reasons than supporting fellow authors who write in the LGBTQ genre. It’s about showing support for ALL people in the LGBTQ community in general.
As an ally, this is one issue I will always feel passionately about because it affects me on a personal level, having many friends and family members who are gay, lesbian and bi-sexual. Not to mention the fact that I’ve kissed a girl or two in my time and have no regrets. I’d probably do it again, if the right girl came along, like say… Salma Hayek, Kerry Washington or Lucy Liu. As you can see, my tastes include a cornucopia of gorgeous flavors. J
The mission of Hop Against Homophobia, Bi- and Transphobia is to spread awareness of homophobic, biphobic and transphobic discrimination by expressing ourselves and get readers from within our own genres involved. Furthermore, we are here to stand together as an LGBTQ writer community against discrimination of our books.
Speaking of LGBT books, I started writing #MM romance a few years back and haven’t written much of any other genre since. I thoroughly enjoy reading and writing for many reasons.
As far as reading #MM romance, I adore a variety of sub-genres, including paranormal and military themes, which is 2/3s of the sub-genres I generally write. These stories often provide insight to situations relevant to the world we live in today. Most offer messages of hope and inclusion the likes of which we rarely see in mainstream genres anymore. The variety is too numerous to count and growing with leaps and bounds. Not to mention the fact that two sexy guys falling in love and finally getting together is not only romantic, but hot as heck, too!
At the moment, I’m working on another southern themed #MM romance because this is what my particular readers seem to prefer. Real scenarios with relatable characters, situations, and the importance of perseverance, offering a bit hope that someday everyone will be treated equally.
I am a firm believer that the more we discuss the issue, the more we show the ultra-conservatives that not only are people within the LGBTQ community NOT a threat to our traditional way of life, but instead, bring a fresh, new aspect of love and ideals that are inclusive of all forms of a what it takes to create a “family unit.”
Together, we can and will make a difference. I’m doing my part, are you doing yours?
Feel free to post your reasons for supporting the LGBTQ community in the comments below and you’ll be entered in a drawing to win a free e-book copy from Tyler Robbins’ backlist of #MM titles.
